At the end of 8th grade, I thought about what high school I wanted to go to. Ventura or Foothill, friends on one hand and learning on the other. In the past, I have struggled with different aspects of learning, and through these struggles, I have discovered that a good teacher can help you see and understand things in a way that works best for you. After much pondering, I decided that Foothill would be the best choice for me.
I talked to my parents about going to Foothill. We didn't know how much homework I would get, or if I would have friends there. I talked to my friends about what school they were going to. Most of my friends were going to Ventura or Buena. Luckily, I found some people I knew that were applying to Foothill, so that raised my spirits. My parents and I decided to wait to see if I got in before making our final decision. When we found out that I got in, we thought about the pros and cons of going to Foothill. We felt that the small size of the school, the commitment of the teachers, and the block schedule would help me grow academically and socially.
At the beginning of school I was very nervous. I didn't know if I would like my teachers, enjoy my classes, or if I would have any friends in my classes. I was unfamiliar with the campus, so I got lost a couple of times. It took me a few days to find my way around. I was surprised that I got homework during the first couple days of school, but I was able to get some of it done in FIRE, which really helped. At first I didn't know how to find my friends, so I felt a little bit alone, but I knew that I would make new friends quickly.
Six weeks into school, I couldn't be happier with my decision to attend Foothill. I feel much more comfortable. I enjoy all my classes, and all my teachers are really nice. I feel that my teachers truly want me to succeed in school and life. I’m not getting as much homework as I feared, but it keeps me very busy. I have made some new friends here such as Ricardo and Nick, and have even discovered that some of my old friends are here. I have had much fun in Mr. Gieb’s class. I enjoy how he runs the class. My only regret is that I couldn't get more of my friends to come to Foothill with me.
